Turkuaz on Turkish National TV
The beginning of 2010 was a good but hectic for us as a turkish tv programme featuring turkish abroad wanted to do a documentary on our boutique founder Mr Gurcan Selekoglu as he is a turkish living in Malaysia for more than 15 years.
This news came to us in early January so we were all busy sprucing the office. The shop outlets were also not spared as the producer was interested in documenting the outlets as well as places of interest around these locations such as the malay community in Masjid India, malaysia administrative centre in Putrajaya and historic city Melaka.
The task of bringing the crew around Malaysia fell squarely on Mr Gurcan's shoulder as he brought them to Petronas Twin Tower, Putrajaya Lake, Chinatown, indian temples and even to try the durian. Guided with a travel guide book of Malaysia, the crew were interested about Malaysia's cultures, people and food.
It was a small crew consisting of a producer and video man. So it was a very mobile crew as halfway during the shoot, they had to stop it and flew to Philippines to shoot another turkish businessman there. After a week, they came back and continue the shot in Malaysia. Too bad only the producer can speak in english, the video man had problem communicating with the locals as he can only speak in turkish.
The documentary also had snapshots from Mr Gurcan's photo album and the ones that caught their attention were the ones of him with our then prime minister, now Tun Mahathir. As the president of the Turkish Businessman Association, he was constantly invited to represent the turkish community in Malaysia. With Mr Gurcan's charm and easy going nature, he has made many friends from various social backgrounds.
When this documentary aired in Turkey, there were numerous emails and phone calls to Mr Gurcan due to the inspiration they obtained from this man who came from a small town in Turkey but has made a name for Turkey in Malaysia in muslim ladies fashion.
Now Mr Gurcan dreams of doing a travelogue in turkish language featuring our beautiful country of Malaysia. Hopefully it will not take too long for this dream to come to fruition. So do not be surprised if one day you see Mr Gurcan travelling about in Malaysia with his film crew :D
