What have we done for our earth lately?

We have one life and one earth only.

So what are we doing with it? There's a famous quote that says:-

"The life we have is God's gift to us -- but what we do with it is our gift back to God"

This saying can also be applied to our earth. Environment damage is so acute that we simply cannot ignore it further. I wake up this morning sneezing. I drove out to hazy skies and walk out for lunch without the burning sensation of the hot sun even though it's summer now.

But I miss the glare of the sun... without the sun, it means that there is too much pollution in the air which blocks the sunrays.

So the most fundamental step that Turkuaz as a corporate body can do it to reduce environment damage is to reduce plastic bags. We have started giving out reusable bags for purchases and for purchases of just one piece of scarf, we asked the customers' permission to put the scarf in their bags.

Turkuaz also does not believe in sending out catalogues. The most are paper flyers that is not even A4 size. It is not that we are stingy or calculative but we believe every piece of paper counts.

A friend of mine used to chide me whenever I accept flyers handed out and later throw in the nearest dustbin. He used to say unless you really need it, don't take it.

The message is even stronger in Switzerland where the citizens have to pay for every kilo of rubbish that they throw.

So perhaps it is time that we as malaysians are more attentive and proactive like our western counterparts. Not only is the message "waste not" but more importantly do not generate "waste".
