Having hosted 4 foreign friends on different occasions before, it never fail to amaze me how all of them are taken in by our "Kaya" - our local version of jam or butter spread.
In fact they will buy it back by the cans - which I find totally amusing.
Hehe.. I even took photos of the stuffs one french couple bought.
And there are antiques which they bought from Melaka.
Remember these China made sewing machines selling for RM10 last time? The french were mesmerized by this gadget. Note the bottle of rose syrup at the bottom.
Another favourite item is our "minyak kapak". During my turkish boss recent trip back to Turkey, he bought dozens as they were "orders" from friends and relatives who find our local ointment really useful for headache etc.
So I guess everywhere you travel, just as you are fascinated by the stuffs sold abroad, visitors to Malaysia may well find our normal everyday-use-items interesting and worth sharing in their home country.

Collistar Talasso Scrub
Having suffered from sand fly bites which left many distinct dark scars and I resorted to a few creams to lighten it.
The biggest help came in the form of a salt oil scrub from SASA. It's Collistar Talasso scrub which I use on a weekly basis.
Initially I was turned off by how oily the tub looks but surprisingly even though I just wash it off with plain water, it did not leave any greasy residue.
Furthermore, the salt scrub didnt caused further dryness to my skin...
I would definitely recommend this product to those who suffer from dry skin but couldnt use any body lotion cos the lotion sometimes cause rashes.
So far all my scars have ligthen tremendously but like all scars, it will take time to be completely heal so it is only logical and reasonable to give 3-6 months recovery period.

Medi Qtto Night Sleeping Socks
Read about this product from a blog saying that after wearing the socks overnight, her feet felt very light as if not touching ground PLUS it helps to slim your thigh.
Given the opportunity to buy directly from Japan at lower prices I immediately bought 2 - one for me and one for my sister.
There are 3 types available:-
1) knee
2) thigh
3) panty type
So far I only see the knee type being sold in Watsons, Malaysia.
Available sizes only in M and L - which is understandable... after all if you have small thighs.. why bother to shape it further..
I tried the THIGH TYPE cos I do not think I would like to sleep with a restricted belly.
VERDICT:- I sleep in a non air con room with just fan so I have never managed to wear it for more than 1 hour ;p
It's just not comfortable for me to sleep with! However even after wearing for a like half an hour, my tired sore feet will immediately feel relieved.. very useful during my monthly menstruation cycle when I am prone to tired feet.
My sister tried the PANTY TYPE
VERDICT:- she sleeps in air con room so was not that uncomfortable but she did have to go toilet more frequently at night. I guess this means that the socks is removing all the water retention.. Hopefully! =D
So far after wearing it for about a month, we dont see visible slimming effects but as a relief for tired feet, the compression socks really deliver what it promised!

Braces$$
How much does it cost to get your teeth aligned in your country?
I'm interested cos my younger sister in thinking of getting her upper jaw done by a dentist in Kuala Lumpur. She asked around and basically it costs about RM4,000 to RM5,000... hmmm quite costly...
So when I saw many people actually mostly women having braces in Jakarta, I mount up to courage to ask a sales girl... was a bit apprehensive for fear of sounding like a "kepoh chi" ;p
She explained that in Jakarta, you can opt to get it done by a dentist or an "ahli".
Ahli (which literally means representative)???... I probed further...
Turned out "ahli" is someone who goes around asking if you are interested to get your teeth done. They do a good job only they dont have a clinic but charge way cheaper than a dentist. About half the price.
Of course after the initial "work" you'll need to do follow up every 3weeks to a month and a dentist will charge Rupiah 200,000 (approximately RM70) per visit but an "ahli" only charge Rupiah 100,000 (approximately RM35).. and you'll need to do this every month for about 2 years...
Another girl I asked (well since the initial girl, I thought what the heck! Just ask!) who went for a dentist said she paid Rupiah8,000,000 (about RM2,800) for the initial work... so after doing the math, she will have to pay about RM4,480 for the whole procedure... sounds like same price with KL right?
Wrong cos this price is for both upper and lower jaw!!
But am I going to suggest my sister to do it in Jakarta? Well... hmmm... the cost of the plane ticket is going to kill me first cos Air Asia is no longer that super cheap now.
So just got to find a cheaper dentist in KL... Any recommendations?

The Avengers
AVENGERS... those who havent watch the movie are queueing up to get good seats but having watched it yesterday.. I was a bit disappointed.
Reason:- my favorite movie review site Rotten Tomatoes by Flixster have been very accurate in their ratings so far considering there are 2 one from the critics and another from the audience, I guess the 93-96% ratings given to this movie gave me a very high expectation.
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/marvels_the_avengers/
The banter from Iron Man character was really good as well as some funny dialogues but in the end it was how easily the enemies were disposed off that was a little let down.. nothing clever or fancy...
Watch the movie for yourself to know what I'm trying to say.
